Your Guide to Raising a Confident, Healthy Young Athlete

At Genesis Sports Academy, parents are partners in the development of every athlete. This section gives you clear, practical guidance to help your child grow safely, confidently, and consistently — on and off the field.

Glasses of Water

Hydration & Safety Essentials

  • Daily Hydration Goal: Kids should drink water consistently throughout the day, not just at practice.

  • Pre‑Practice Hydration: 8–12 oz of water 30 minutes before training.

  • During Practice: Small sips every 10–15 minutes.

  • Heat Safety: Light clothing, shade breaks, and awareness of early signs of overheating (fatigue, dizziness, irritability).

Nutrition Basics for Young Athletes

Before Training:

  • Banana, granola bar, yogurt, or toast with peanut butter.

  • Avoid heavy meals within 60 minutes of activity.

After Training:

  • Protein + carbs within 30 minutes.

  • Chocolate milk, turkey sandwich, fruit smoothie, or Greek yogurt.

Nutrition Tip:

Colorful plates = better energy. Aim for 3–4 colors per meal.

Parent And Child

How to Support Your Athlete Without Over‑Coaching

Parents often mean well, but too much sideline coaching can overwhelm kids.

Here’s the balance:

  • Encourage effort, not perfection.

  • Ask questions like: “Did you have fun?” or “What did you learn today?”

  • Let coaches handle technique — your job is confidence and consistency.

  • Praise resilience: “I love how you kept trying.”
